Helen Milne Productions in association with Mull Theatre are bringing epic new a cappella musical Islander to full production this summer before embarking on a Scotland wide tour. The production is directed by Amy Draper, written by Stewart Melton with music and lyrics by Finn Anderson.
Eilidh has never left her island. Every day is the same. Same chores, same people, same conversations. She stands on the cliffs and dreams of the Bigland over the sea.
Then one day a boy from faraway is washed up on the shore - and with him, events that will change her life forever.
'There's men on my beach. Dark blue uniforms, almost black. Marching out of the sea from submarines. Chanting. Singing.'
Boldly exploring themes of war, migration and identity, Islander is for everyone 8 years and older. Blending dramatic action, epic storytelling and a cappella song, the performers live-record and layer their voices with looping technology to create a feast for the ears and imagination.
