The Bow Maker - A New Musical
Story by Finn Anderson & Tania Azevedo

Orchestrations by Finn Anderson & Daniel Jarvis
The world’s finest string players must have the world’s finest bows and these bows require a specific, rare wood – Pernambuco, harvested from Brazil’s national tree.
In 2001, Pernambuco was listed an endangered species due to the destruction of Brazil’s Atlantic rainforest. This sparked an unlikely alliance between world-class European bow makers and tree farmers in Brazil with implications for string players and orchestras worldwide, including here in Scotland.
A new musical will tell the story of these accidental activists catapulted into the world of international trade, environmental activism and classical music.
The Bow Maker will be a cross-cultural theatre production featuring an original score for string quartet and voice, infused with classical and Brazilian influences.
Following an international research trip supported by Creative Scotland, The Bow Maker is being developed through a Musical Theatre Lab with National Theatre of Scotland, Dundee Rep and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
